Your Energetic Marketing Guide to Business Growth Without Social Media

business growth without social media

I have heard time and time again from my clients, “I don’t want to be on social media.”

And with the current political landscape and control on our communication platforms, many people are considering migrating off the apps that we’ve been addicted to for the last decade. Although I don’t think social media will ever disappear, there is definitely a shake up on the horizon.

The good news is, there’s a huge opportunity to grow your business off social media, believe it or not! The biggest opportunity lies in what feels good and natural to you to execute.

The key to a successful marketing strategy starts with your energetics — the way you naturally show up, operate, connect, and thrive. By choosing activities that resonate with your higher self and conscious energy, you’ll not only enjoy the process but also stay consistent naturally. Let’s explore how energetics and marketing co-exist and drive your success.

Energetic Basics: Understanding the Ego and Higher Consciousness

Being a small business owner is a huge self-discovery journey. Truly believing in yourself and what you sell is imperative, however, many times our ego gets in the way of our brilliant ideas. The ego shows up saying, “you’re not good enough”, “no one will buy that”, “who do you think you are”, etc.

I’m sure you can think of a time when you had an amazing idea, but you talked yourself out of it…I can think of MANY!

Your energetic alignment begins with understanding the interplay between your ego and higher consciousness, and being self-aware of the egocentric thoughts when they creep in. According to experts like Lenka Lutonska and Tara Swart, our ego represents the part of us that seeks safety, control, and validation. It often drives fear-based decisions or perfectionism, leading us to choose strategies that feel "safe", but might not align with our true purpose.

Higher consciousness, on the other hand, taps into intuition, creativity, and expansive thinking. It’s the part of us that allows for bold, authentic action and alignment with our greater vision. When marketing from this space of making an impact, inspiring, truly serving, you’re more likely to feel flow and inspiration rather than resistance.

Tapping into this higher consciousness comes from connection with self. Mainly when you’re relaxed and in your rest and digest nervous system. The most popular daily practices often stem from mediation, prayer, affirmations, yoga, music and other activities that put you in this flow state.

I highly recommend having a ‘CEO Hour’ every day. Even if you don’t have an hour to block, 15 to 30 minutes is plenty if you can truly turn inward.

Operating from higher consciousness:

  • Recognize Ego-Driven Patterns: Are you choosing a marketing tactic because it feels like the "norm" or because it truly excites you?

  • Shift to Intuition: Pause and ask yourself what feels right or expansive. Trust your gut instincts rather than overthinking. Your intuition will come through more and more as you take time to tune inwards.

  • Focus on Abundance: Higher consciousness often embraces abundance thinking — believing there are more than enough resources, opportunities, and clients to thrive.

  • Intentions Matter: What energy is behind your post? Are you just praying and hoping it does better than the last one? Or are you creating it with a true desire to inspire / education / entertain? Posting with the energy of hope and desperation stems from lack. We want to show up with confidence and passion! Always check your intention before you publish any marketing pieces!

Pro Tip: Practices like visualization or setting energetic intentions can help you stay connected to higher consciousness when making decisions for your business. I recommend The Source by Tara Swart to understand the science behind these techniques, and Energetic Marketing & Selling by Lenka Lutonska to dive deeper into blending energetics with your marketing & selling.

How to Know if You’re Energetically Aligned with your Marketing

Being energetically aligned means choosing strategies that feel natural, exciting, and sustainable for you. Here are some ways to determine if your marketing efforts align with your energetics:

  1. You Feel Excited, Not Drained: When thinking about or working on a specific activity, do you feel energized and motivated? If the thought of doing it fills you with dread, it’s likely not aligned.

  2. You Enjoy the Process: Energetically aligned activities are those you enjoy doing for their own sake, not just for the end results.

  3. You’re Consistent Without Burnout: When you’re aligned, you can show up consistently because the work feels manageable and fulfilling, rather than overwhelming or exhausting. You know what you produce will create impact.

  4. You See Authentic Engagement: Activities that align with your energy often resonate with your audience, leading to more meaningful connections and better results.

  5. You Feel in Flow: Tasks that match your natural strengths or preferences often feel easier and more intuitive to complete.

For example, I wrote the bulk of this article within an hour because it is something I’m passionate about and I was in the flow. It didn’t feel like work. I know the power of organic traffic, so long form blogs are one of my pillars. I follow a re-purposing strategy, so I will utitlize this post in a variety of ways.

Leveraging Human Design for Energetic Marketing Alignment

Human Design, a self-knowledge and discovery system, can provide insights into your natural tendencies and strengths based on your birthdate, time and location. By understanding your Human Design type, such as Generator, Manifestor, Projector, or Reflector, you can be informed and tailor your marketing strategies to align with how you best work and connect with others. It can also help inform hiring decisions, finding energetic matches that have strengths where you may have weaknesses.

For example:

  • Generators: Thrive when they respond to opportunities that excite them, making them great at relationship-driven or content-focused strategies.

  • Manifestors: Excel at initiating projects and setting ideas into motion, ideal for creating bold campaigns or innovative content.

  • Projectors: Shine in guiding and directing others, making them well-suited for coaching, workshops, or one-on-one client work.

  • Reflectors: Reflect the energy of their environment, thriving in collaborative or community-oriented strategies.

Pro Tip: Use ChatGPT to help you identify the best activities based on your human design and astrology charts! This is the prompt I used: “Based on my human design and astrological charts, please help me understand what I need to do to be more successful in business.” You can get a Free Human Design chart here.

Take a look at a small excerpt from what ChatGPT told me based on my chart. To me, this is so insightful!

How to Choose a Marketing Strategy

Below, I have listed organic, in-person and paid tactics based on energetic alignments. Keep in mind, I don’t suggest you try ALL the tactics within the category—this is simply a list of possibilities. You may also feel aligned with more than one of these energetic charectorizations. A strategy should be tailored to your audience and what you sell.

It’s important to decide which activities:

  1. Make the biggest impact or conversion

  2. Are sustainable and able to be repeated consistently

  3. Are within your budget of money & time

  4. Are things that make you excited (if they don’t, and they’re important, outsource!)

  5. Are these things my audience would resonate with, or attend

To maximize your energy and avoid burnout, I typically recommend one long-form content strategy piece as your primary focus to attract new customers, and pair it with a few supportive activities to maximize your lead generation. This ensures you create impactful, cornerstone content, while still diversifying your outreach.

Reminder: Creating value, generating trust and providing answers are the best ways to engage a new propsect. You can create value many ways. Keep this in mind with everything you do!

A Strategy Could Look Like:

  • Primary Lead Gen Strategy: Long Form Blogging

    • Supportive Activities: Pinterest for sharing your blog posts, email marketing to distribute new content, and SEO to drive organic traffic. Going to in person networking events once a month to chat with likeminded people!

  • Primary Lead Gen Strategy: YouTube

    • Supportive Activities: Collaborations with other creators, email marketing to engage subscribers, and create in-person workshops quarterly to connect directly with your audience.

  • Primary Lead Gen Strategy: Community Building

    • Supportive Activities: Email newsletter to keep members engaged, content or resource that could be used by your group and targetted paid ads to grow your community. Amplification happens through other people’s network after being blown away with your content & community.

Now that I have covered the basics, let’s get into what activities may suit you depending on your natural energetics.

Foundational Marketing Elements for Small Businesses

If you’re not planning to have your business on social media, it’s imperative that you execute the foundational online strategies first to ensure when people land on your home page, they resonante with your message!

  • High-Converting Website: Having a website with a great UX and dialed in messaging gives a great first impression. If you connect with this person immediately, they’re more likely to start clicking around and learning more about you. We have pre-made, plug and play Squarespace templates here!

  • Email Marketing: When people opt into email marketing, you “own” this client list. This will be an important way to keep your customers up to date on events, sales, special announcements, new content and more if you don’t plan to have social media.

  • SEO: Optimize your website for search engines to drive targeted, organic traffic to your site. It will be incredibly important to drive organic traffic if social media isn’t in your strategy. Learn more about SEO here, or check out our beginners guide!

  • Create a Memorable Experience: If you’re a local business, or even providing an online services or program, creating a memorable experience is something that can keep, retain and help grow referral traffic. If someone is blown away by the product or service, they are much more likely to promote you and share it with their network. Think of small ways that you can deliver an experience that will have people talking. This also requires you to be tapped into that magentic higher energy!

1. Outgoing, Relationship-Thriving People

If you’re someone who thrives on personal interaction and enjoys building meaningful connections, these strategies might be your sweet spot. These activities include:

  • In-Person Networking: Attending industry events, local meetups, or community gatherings to meet potential clients or collaborators. The focus is on genuine connections over sales pitches. Remember, people buy from people!

  • Collaborations: Partner with other businesses or influencers to co-host events, create bundles, or cross-promote services. This is an amazing opportunity for local businesses, as well as, growing the backlinks to your website—an important SEO element for growing authority.

  • Public Speaking & Workshops: Share your expertise at events, conferences, or even in local libraries and co-working spaces. Your energy will shine in face-to-face environments.

  • Referral Programs: Turn your happy customers into advocates. Create a structured program to reward referrals and grow your client list without added activities.

  • Create an In-Person Community or Meetup: Community and connection is more important than ever. This is like networking, but taking it one step further by being the “connector”. Creating a meetup or community that meets regularly with like-minded people is a surefire way to grow your business.

Pro Tip: Prioritize events and partnerships that align with your values and goals to keep your energy high and your connections authentic. These people should have similar audiences.

2. Natural Teachers

For those who love sharing knowledge and creating resources, these strategies allow you to channel your creative energy into powerful marketing tools that build trust and authority.

  • Blogging & Content Strategy: Having a content strategy will be a huge opportunity if you loving sharing knowledge! Write articles, guides, or how-to posts that educate your audience. Consistency is key, so choose a manageable schedule, such as one long form post/month.

  • YouTube: Teach, inspire, or entertain through video. YouTube seems to be one of the least controversial platforms and has stood the test of time. Whether it’s tutorials, behind-the-scenes content, or storytelling, video content can establish your authority and reach. Keep in mind, YouTube tends to take A LOT of time depending on how much editing and preparation you plan to do. You could outsource editing if creating excites you, but the rest doesn’t. The perk about YouTube is the potential to monetize your channel and have an additional income stream.

  • Podcasts: Share your thoughts, expertise, or interviews with other industry professionals in an engaging audio format. This is a great way to get in front of a large amount of people using someone else’s social media or community, without having your own.

  • Guest Blogging: Reach a wider audience by contributing valuable content to other blogs or websites in your niche. You could use social media to find these people, YouTube or organic searches.

  • Hosting Workshops or Events: Offer value through live or virtual workshops that solve a problem or teach a skill. This builds trust and loyalty.

  • Create an Online Community: Online communities are quickly growing in popularity. Things like Discord, Reddit, Skool, Circle, etc. are all popular forums. Many of the programs can cost a fee to host, however, it can pay off in the long run.

Pro Tip: Plan your content out each month to maintain consistency. For example, if you are doing a content stratgy plus planning to be a guest on podcasts, make sure you have a schedule that allows you time to do both. Such as one blog per month and one guest appearance quarterly.

3. Introverted & Detail-Oriented Folks

If you’re more analytical, introverted and enjoy planning and working behind the scenes, these strategies may resonate with you:

  • Pinterest: Although people may group Pinterest into “social media”, I don’t consider it on the same level. Pinterest is more of an idea and inspiration generator. It is also a huge organic traffic generator. Design engaing pins around the content you have on your site or other platforms.

  • Direct Mail Campaigns: Target specific audiences with postcards, catalogs, or flyers that stand out in a digital-first world. If you’re a local business, physical coupons or rewards programs are great for retention.

  • Networking via Communities: If in-person events aren’t exciting you, it may excite you to be seen as an expert behind the computer. As I mentioned above, there are many community groups that you could begin inserting your knowledge in. Reddit is a big one!

  • PR: Pitch your content to news outlets! Many news outlets look to social media to find viral videos or trends that people are talking about. If you don’t use social media, you’ll have to do some leg work to get your content out there. It could be worth it to hire a specialist that has ties with news outlets for this!

  • Google My Business: Optimize your GMB profile to improve local search visibility and attract customers near you. If you’re not a local business, skip this option!

  • Ads / Sponsorships: Ads and sponsorships can get your business in front of the eyes of likeminded audiences. Google PPC Ads are relatively inexpensive, but you can also explore publications, YouTube ads, events and outings that your audience would be at.

  • Utilize Influencers: Even if your business isn’t using social media, you can still hire people who do! Getting your product in the hands of influencers, having them enjoy your service, or inviting them to take your program in exchange for social promotion offers you the ability to reach an audience without personally having social media.

Pro Tip: Use automation tools to streamline repetitive tasks and maximize your efficiency.

4. Low-Energy or Time-Constrained Entrepreneurs

For those with limited energy or time, simplicity is key. These strategies allow you to stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed:

  • Referral / Affiliate Programs: Let your happy clients spread the word. Reward referrals with discounts, perks, or even a simple thank-you note. If you’re strictly digital, consider an affiliate program!

  • Google My Business: Set up and maintain your profile to ensure local customers can easily find you.

  • Simple Blogging: Write shorter, impactful content like tips or FAQs to provide value without overcommitting.

  • Email Marketing: Use templates and automations for quick updates and consistent communication.

  • Promote with Other Complementary Businesses: Whether you’re online or local, you’ll be able to identify complementary businesses that you can partner or promote at. It could simply be hanging a flyer!

    • Examples would be:

      • A pet sitter could partner with a veterinarian or dog boutique/bakery

      • If you provide services for moms, market at kids play center, pediatirican or childrens clothing boutique

Pro Tip: Focus on strategies that require minimal ongoing maintenance, but deliver long-term results. As you build relationships, the referrals will follow!

5. Visionary Creators

For big-picture thinkers who thrive on innovation and love brainstorming ideas but may struggle with execution. As a 1/3 projector, I find myself with this problem a lot! If you have the budget, it will be beneficial to outsource projects that you feel are necessary, but don’t excite you.

  • Strategy Development: Focus your energy on designing overarching marketing strategies and planning the big picture, but delegating it to specialists or team members. Obviously this is budget dependent!

  • Thought Leadership: Share unique insights through long form content, white papers, keynote speeches, or books.

  • Keynotes: Speaking engagements at conferences and events with larger audiences can get you noticed by a big group of people at one time. With a strong message and opportunity to network, these could expontentially grow your business without much effort.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Partner with detail-oriented or community-focused marketers to share your products, services or programs with their communities and channels.

Hiring Help for Essential, but Challenging Activities

Sometimes, the activities that are critical to your strategy may not align with your strengths or energy. Rather than forcing yourself to do something that feels draining or stressful, consider hiring help to ensure these essential tasks are executed effectively.

  • SEO: As an SEO practitioner, I find that this is a topic people don’t want to learn. You can hire an SEO expert to optimize your website and content or learn it quick with my SEO resources.

  • Content Creation: For those who struggle with consistency in blogging, podcasting, or video production, work with freelance writers, editors, or video creators. This could help you create inspiring ideas consistently, but pass the leg work, like editing, off to someone else.

  • Email Marketing: If crafting engaging emails isn’t your strength, a copywriter or email marketing specialist can help.

  • Technical Setup: Tasks like website updates, analytics, or automation can be outsourced to a virtual assistant or specialist.

Pro Tip: Focus on the tasks you excel at and delegate the rest to free up your energy for the parts of your business that excite you most. We use sites like FIVERR our UpWork. You can also find great talent at networking events, communities and local business meet ups.
